In PLAPCO’s experience, most conventional residential pool projects do not start with a property-specific soils investigation and a fully custom structural foundation design. Instead, they may use signed and stamped structural plans based on accepted standard pool details when those details are appropriate for the property and accepted by the jurisdiction.

That does not mean the pool is unengineered. It means the structural design is based on established details intended for ordinary conditions rather than being developed from scratch for one particular lot.

Some sites need a completely different approach.

Hillsides, deep fill, weak or expansive soils, unusual retaining conditions, elevated pool walls, difficult access, groundwater, nearby structures, or homeowner risk concerns may lead to geotechnical investigation and site-specific structural engineering.
